We've been running a Young Marine Boot camp Since January of course that was only three days, and we're finishing up our Last two days in February (21st and 25th).

We'll be graduating our new recruits on February 25th.  It's been busy working with 19 new recruits.  We are scheduled to have our next boot camp in April of 2008.  It seems that we have 40 new recruits waiting in the wings for that.

As the Training Officer and Drill Instructor I've stayed pretty busy.  All our staff have worked hard to get the company formed as we all have different areas to work on.

Our CO. Mike Altrogge and his Adjutant Kathie Altrogge and our XO Johnny Gothard have worked very hard to to build this company of the River Valley Young Marines located in Fort Smith Arkansas.

We are of course part of the River Valley Detachment Marine Corps League.  It's been a real experience working with fellow Marines again and helping to train Young Marines in the positive aspects of leadership and a drug free life style.  Others areas of training are community service and citizenship.

I'm looking forward to April and the new batch of Young Marine Recruits coming our way.

Semper FI!

OK!

Our Unit the River Valley Young Marines has come a long way in the last year and three months.  Our next boot camp is 17, 18, and 19 April 2009.  We will be aboard Fort Chaffee, Army National Guard Base in Fort Smith Arkansas.

Being the Training Officer and Drill Instructor for the Company, I'm still keeping my hand in Training possible future Marines.  The Cadets are ages 8 years through high school.  It's a great program, but like the Marines we are always running on bar rowed everything.  Our average age in our unit runs about age twelve.

Anyway we have a great bunch of Staff, our company commander Mike Altrogge is a former Marine and Vietnam Vet.  His wife Kathy Altrogge is our Adjutant and former Navy Brat, Our XO is Chris Remaley also a Former Marine and Vietnam Vet. Of course there's me the old Gunny, Sherry Jackson is our activities officer, Civilian but great staff.  Our safety Officer is Specialist Higgins, Army National Guardsman and a great asset to our staff.

Boot camp will run a complete weekend for these kids.  I can tell you that from the start till they complete their 30 hours of training, we will run them silly with classroom training, Close Order Drill and P.T..  One thing for sure when we have lights out at 9 PM we don't have to worry about any problems, because when their little heads hit the pillow, they are out until 6 PM Reveille.

I'll post some photos the last week in April on this forum.

Semper Fi!

Gunny S.
